- Officials across the UAE have reiterated safety advisories, urging residents to avoid flood-prone areas, stay indoors during severe weather, and follow official guidance as inspections and weather monitoring continue
- The incident has underscored the importance of strict safety measures, especially during periods of extreme weather
Severe weather conditions across parts of the United Arab Emirates have led to widespread disruption and tragedy, including the death of a young Indian expatriate in Ras Al Khaimah. The incident occurred as heavy rainfall battered several emirates, flooding roads, affecting flight operations, and raising renewed concerns about safety in vulnerable residential and construction zones.
The victim, a 27-year-old Indian national named Salman Fariz, lost his life in the early hours of the morning when a partially constructed wall collapsed. The incident took place around 3 a.m. in the Nakheel area of Ras Al Khaimah, where Salman was residing. He was employed as a delivery agent at a local cafeteria and was known among colleagues as a hardworking and dependable individual.
- The aviation sector was also impacted, with major carriers including Emirates and flydubai cancelling or rescheduling multiple flights due to poor weather conditions
- Passengers were advised to check flight status updates and allow extra time for travel
According to preliminary information shared by his employer and community social workers, the structure that collapsed was still under construction and may have weakened due to persistent rainfall. Authorities in Ras Al Khaimah have since launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the collapse and to assess whether safety regulations were adequately followed at the site.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the expatriate community, particularly among Indian workers, many of whom live in low-lying neighborhoods or close to ongoing construction projects. Community leaders and social organizations have urged residents to remain alert during extreme weather and to report unsafe structures to local authorities.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains caused extensive flooding in several parts of the UAE. Videos circulating on social media showed cars partially submerged on roads in busy areas such as Karama and Al Barsha, highlighting the scale of the disruption. Municipal teams were deployed to clear waterlogged streets and ensure traffic safety.
