A 24-year-old Indian international student was seriously injured in a knife attack in a Toronto suburb late Tuesday, with Canadian authorities confirming the incident within the past 24 hours and launching a high-priority investigation. The assault took place near a residential complex popular among international students, raising fresh concerns over safety in student-dense neighborhoods.
According to police reports, the victim was walking back from a late shift at a part-time job when he was approached by an unidentified individual. Witnesses stated that a brief confrontation preceded the attack, during which the assailant used a sharp weapon and fled immediately afterward. Emergency responders arrived within minutes and transported the student to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

“We are exploring all possible motives, including whether this was a targeted incident,” a Toronto Police spokesperson said, adding that no arrests have been made so far
The incident has sparked anxiety among Indian students in Canada, who form one of the largest international student communities in the country. Student associations have called for increased police presence and better lighting in residential zones. “Safety cannot be compromised, especially for those living away from home,” a student leader remarked.
The Indian Consulate in Toronto has acknowledged the incident and is coordinating with authorities while providing assistance to the victim. Universities have issued advisories urging students to avoid isolated routes late at night.
