The Classes Internationales programme has also been expanded to several countries across the Indo-Pacific region and Africa, showing France’s growing focus on attracting international talent and building stronger global academic partnerships
France has expanded its ‘Classes Internationales’ programme as part of a wider plan to welcome 30,000 Indian students each year by 2030. The initiative follows the shared vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron to strengthen educational ties between the two countries.
The programme is designed to encourage Indian students to begin their international education journey at the undergraduate level instead of waiting until postgraduate studies. It offers a one-year preparatory course that helps students adjust to studying in France through language training, academic guidance and cultural learning.

Students joining the programme can access more than 200 undergraduate degree courses across over 30 French universities
-
The available subjects include engineering, science, business, arts and humanities. Even students with no previous knowledge of the French language can apply

A major part of the programme focuses on helping students achieve A2-level French language skills before travelling to France. This training is provided through Alliance Française centres in India. The programme also offers support with visa applications, including a reduced visa processing fee of around €50 for Indian applicants.
The initiative is supported by Campus France and the French Institute in India, both of which provide guidance throughout the admission and relocation process. Officials believe the scheme will make it easier for Indian students to adapt to life in France and improve their future career opportunities in Europe.
