Indian communities continue to grow across North America, the Gulf and other key global destinations
The United States is home to the world’s largest overseas Indian community, according to the latest data released by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), highlighting the expanding global footprint of the Indian diaspora.
MEA figures show that around 6.08 million (60.79 lakh) Indians are living in the United States, making it the leading destination for the Indian diaspora. The United Arab Emirates ranks second with 4.34 million (43.44 lakh) Indians, followed by Canada with 3.25 million (32.48 lakh).
Other countries with sizeable Indian communities include Malaysia (2.90 million), Saudi Arabia (2.75 million), Myanmar (2 million), South Africa (1.8 million), Sri Lanka (1.61 million), the United Kingdom (1.28 million) and Kuwait (1.04 million).
The figures reflect long-standing migration trends shaped by employment opportunities, higher education, business and family settlement. Countries such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom continue to attract skilled professionals, students and entrepreneurs, while Gulf nations remain major destinations for Indian workers employed in sectors including construction, healthcare, engineering, retail and hospitality.
