More than 1,000 members of the Indian community in Oman took part in a 5-km Viksit Bharat Solidarity Run organised by the Embassy of India in Muscat on Friday to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The event was held as part of Fit India Freedom Run 7.0 and coincided with the concluding day of Seva Pakhwada, observed from September 17 to October 2. It sought to promote fitness, community participation and solidarity among Indians living overseas while highlighting the vision of a Viksit Bharat, or developed India, by 2047.

The run brought together participants across age groups, including children, young people, adults and senior citizens. The event began with Zumba and warm-up exercises before participants set off on the 5-km route.

Carrying the Fit India Freedom Run 7.0 message, “Fitness ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”, the initiative encouraged participants to make regular physical activity part of their daily lives.

  • The event also drew a connection between Gandhi’s legacy and the broader objectives of the Fit India movement

  • His emphasis on discipline, simplicity, physical well-being and service to society provided an appropriate backdrop to an event focused on healthy living and collective participation

Participants received event T-shirts, while commemorative medals were presented at the finish. The large turnout reflected the active participation of the Indian community in Oman and its continuing links with India.

Ambassador of India to Oman Prashant Pise appreciated the community’s enthusiastic participation and thanked the participants, sponsors and volunteers for their contribution to the event.

The solidarity run brought together Indians in Oman across generations, combining a message of fitness with community engagement and reinforcing the shared aspiration of contributing to India’s development journey towards 2047.
