Hits maiden T20I ton as India beat New Zealand with biggest run margin in shortest format  Hardik Pandya was named Player of the Series.

Ahmedabad: Shubman Gill smashed a whirlwind unbeaten maiden century in the shortest format as India thrashed New Zealand by 168 runs, in the third and final T20 International to pocket the hard-fought series 2-1 here on Wednesday, Feb 1, a  report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says.

Hardik Pandya was named Player of the Series.

This was India’s biggest-ever win in terms of runs. It was also the highest margin of victory between two full member teams.

India’s second-highest margin of victory was 143-run win over Ireland in Dublin in 2018.

Gill continued his fine form and showcased his array of shots, hitting the New Zealand bowlers all over the park to score 126 not out off 63 balls with the help of 12 fours and seven sixes. Riding on Gill’s brilliance, India posted 234/4 after electing to bat.

New Zealand never got into the game during the chase as the Indian bowlers performed superbly to bowl out the visitors for a mere 66 in 12.1 overs — the third-lowest score for the Kiwis in this format.

Skipper Hardik Pandya led the bowling department with figures of 4/16, while Umran Malik (2/9), Shivam Mavi (2/12) and Arshdeep Singh (2/16) got two wickets each.

The likes of Finn Allen (3), Devon Conway (1), Mark Chapman (0) and Glenn Phillips had no answers to Arshdeep and Pandya’s troubling spells as Kiwis were in deep trouble at 7/4 in 2.4 overs. 

Soon, Malik joined the party by cleaning up Michael Bracewell, who got troubled by the extra pace as New Zealand’s struggle continued. Pacer Shivam Mavi then dismissed Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi in quick succession to continue the slide.
