A Canada-based NRI and his father from Mohali have been booked by Ludhiana police for allegedly cheating a local resident of ₹7 lakh by falsely promising to secure a transportation tender with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Jalalabad.
The accused have been identified as Anmol Ratan Singh and his father, Balkarn Singh Bhatti, residents of Phase 7, Mohali. According to the police, the duo allegedly collected ₹15 lakh from complainant Manveer Singh Dhaliwal in 2018 after claiming they had strong contacts with senior FCI officials who could help arrange the tender.

Police said the promised tender never materialised. Although the accused later returned ₹8 lakh, the remaining ₹7 lakh was allegedly not repaid despite repeated requests by the complainant.
After failing to recover the balance amount, Dhaliwal reportedly approached various authorities. When earlier complaints did not move forward, he contacted the Bureau of Investigation, which later referred the matter back to Ludhiana police for action.
Following the inquiry, Salem Tabari police station registered an FIR against the accused under sections 406, 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, related to criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
