Covid 19: India exploring ways to procure 50mn Pfizer vaccine

The Indian Union Government is in talks with Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE to secure tens of millions of vaccine doses to give a boost to ongoing vaccination drive in the country.

According to sources, the government is in talks with the western pharmaceutical companies to procure the vaccines.

The Indian agencies are exploring ways to get acquire 50 million doses of a vaccine produced by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE, according to the WSJ report.

“It is also expecting to receive about seven million doses of a vaccine made by Moderna Inc. from the US through Covax, a programme to supply Covid-19 vaccines,” the report further stated.

Currently, India has four vaccines for emergency use. They are: Covishield, Covaxin, Sputnik-V, and Moderna.

Meanwhile, Biological E Limited is also planning to produce 75 million to 80 million doses of a new Covid-19 vaccine (Corbevax) in a month time.

The vaccine developers are Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and Dynavax Technologies Corp.
