In an official statement, Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, expressed his pride in Deakin University’s pioneering initiative. He emphasized that the establishment of this campus represents the beginning of a new chapter in Australia-India education ties. Green noted that Deakin University has been a presence in India for the past 30 years, having made substantial investments in higher education.

Highlighting the university’s commitment to collaboration, Green mentioned Deakin’s partnerships with prestigious institutions in India, including research collaborations with the Indian Institutes of Technology and the establishment of a joint center focused on nanotechnology and sustainability with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Additionally, the university has actively contributed to skilling young India through the Global Job Readiness program in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation.

Looking ahead, Green revealed that Australia is planning to open India’s second foreign branch campus in GIFT City, this time by the University of Wollongong. The inauguration ceremony took place during Vibrant Gujarat, where High Commissioner Green led a robust 90-member delegation, featuring representatives from 36 Australian universities.
