French authorities have intensified a nationwide crackdown on undocumented migrant workers, with Indian nationals among those affected in coordinated enforcement actions conducted within the past 24 hours. Labour inspectors, supported by police units, carried out surprise inspections across restaurants, cleaning services, and small retail establishments in major cities including Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
Officials confirmed that several workers were detained for identity and immigration verification, while employers are under investigation for violations related to illegal hiring and labour exploitation.

Indian community organisations have expressed concern about the impact on vulnerable workers, many of whom rely on informal employment channels due to limited legal opportunities. “Enforcement must be balanced with worker protection,” a community representative stated, urging authorities to provide access to legal assistance and support services.
Experts highlight that undocumented workers are often exposed to exploitative conditions, including underpayment, long working hours, and lack of social protections. “Crackdowns alone cannot solve the issue without addressing recruitment pathways,” a labour analyst observed.
