Gita Gopinath, NASA scientist Kamlesh Lulla in list of ‘2021 Great Immigrants’

Scientist Kamlesh Lulla is known as a counsellor and has trained astronauts. The Ohio University president called Lulla a real people-to-people ambassador for America that promotes understanding through science diplomacy

 

Controversy, talent and fame go hand in hand with Indian-origin economist Gita Gopinath. She is one of the 34 immigrants acknowledged by a Prestigious American honour, ‘2021 Great Immigrants’ nominated by Carnegie Corporation of New York, an NGO.

In 2019, International Monetary Fund Chief Economist Gita, was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, which is the highest honour given by the Government of India to overseas Indians, including NRIs and persons of Indian origin.

In 2019 she had made a controversial statement that the reason behind the global slump is the situation in India and had also opposed the demonetization of Indian rupee.

“This year, our foundation honours 34 naturalised citizens who have strengthened our nation through their lives and examples. The Class of 2021 represents more than 30 countries of origin and emphasises service to society, including honorees who are recognized for helping others as medical providers and researchers; as advocates for the disadvantaged, disabled, and disenfranchised; and as changemakers in politics, voting rights, climate change, and teaching.”

Along with her 34 other immigrants including NASA scientist Kamlesh Lulla got the honour.

“Every Fourth of July, Carnegie Corporation of New York celebrates the contributions of immigrants to American life. This year, our foundation honours 34 naturalised citizens who have strengthened our nation through their lives and examples. The Class of 2021 represents more than 30 countries of origin and emphasises service to society, including honorees who are recognized for helping others as medical providers and researchers; as advocates for the disadvantaged, disabled, and disenfranchised; and as changemakers in politics, voting rights, climate change, and teaching,” said Carnegie Corporation of New York while celebrating the honorees.

Gopinath is known as one of the best world’s best economists and is known for her research on international finance and macroeconomics.

Scientist Kamlesh Lulla is known as a counsellor and has trained astronauts. The Ohio University president called Lulla a real people-to-people ambassador for America that promotes understanding through science diplomacy. He has also been praised for his counselling skills.
