Goa Chamber of Commerce (GCCI) President Ralph de Sousa recently highlighted the plight of Goa’s tourism that has suffered because of the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that all operators from Russia take charters on lease. The present sanctions on Russia could see the lease on charter operators in Russia being withdrawn.
Goa’s charter season, which was struggling due to a slowdown in bookings from Russian destinations — the last charter from Russia arrived on March 3 and returned with passengers on March 7 – could say goodbye to Russians for some time. Usually, charter arrivals from Russian destinations last till mid-May, but will flights be resumed in April? That will only be possible if the situation become normal in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Along with Russia, Goa used to receive tourists from Belarus, Georgia and other CIS countries, but with the war and sanctions on, it is unlikely if tourists will come to the state at all. “There is no hope of Russian charters coming to Goa during the remainder of the season only because of the aircraft,” the GCCI president said.
