India celebrates 20 years of successful diaspora engagement through ‘Know India Programme’

In a significant milestone, the ‘Know India Programme,’ the flagship initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs aimed at connecting with the global Indian diaspora, has completed two successful decades. The Secretary of Consular, Passport, Visa, and Overseas Indian Affairs, Muktesh Pardeshi, addressed the valedictory session of the 70th edition of the program in New Delhi.

The 70th edition of the ‘Know India Programme’ took place from December 11 to 29, attracting participants from diverse countries, including Fiji, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Colombia.

The Ministry announced that the 71st edition of the ‘Know India Programme’ is scheduled from January 3 to 19, further emphasizing the commitment to nurturing global connections and engagement with the Indian diaspora.

In an official statement, the Ministry highlighted that the program has become one of the longest-running diaspora engagement initiatives by the Government of India since its launch in 2003. The primary objective has been to strengthen the bonds between Indian diaspora youth and their ancestral homeland.

The three-week immersive program offers participants exposure to India’s rich history, cultural heritage, and the contemporary growth and development of the country. Open to Persons of Indian Origin aged between 21 to 35 years from all countries, the ‘Know India Programme’ has played a crucial role in fostering a deeper connection with the diverse heritage of India.

The Ministry announced that the 71st edition of the ‘Know India Programme’ is scheduled from January 3 to 19, further emphasizing the commitment to nurturing global connections and engagement with the Indian diaspora.
