World Blood Donor Day initiative highlights humanitarian cooperation and strong India-Kuwait community ties
More than 200 members of Kuwait’s Indian community donated blood during a large-scale campaign organised by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to mark World Blood Donor Day, reinforcing the importance of voluntary blood donation and community service.
The blood donation camp was held on 12 June at Adan Hospital and Blood Bank in collaboration with Blood Donors Kerala (BDK) and the Federation of Indian Doctors (FID). The initiative aimed to support Kuwait’s healthcare system while raising awareness about the life-saving role of regular blood donation.
The event was inaugurated by India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Paramita Tripathi, alongside the Governor of Al Ahmadi Governorate, H.E. Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Representatives from Adan Hospital, the Central Blood Bank and several Indian community organisations also attended the programme.
In a symbolic gesture of support, Sheikh Hamoud became the first donor at the event, encouraging wider participation in the humanitarian campaign. Organisers said the response from the community was overwhelming, with more than 500 people registering for the drive and over 200 successfully donating blood.
Participants from diverse professional and social backgrounds took part, reflecting a strong commitment to public health, social responsibility and community welfare. Organisers thanked donors, volunteers and supporting organisations for contributing to the success of the campaign.
Observed annually around the world, World Blood Donor Day recognises the contribution of voluntary blood donors and promotes awareness of the continuing need for safe and reliable blood supplies. Health authorities and humanitarian organisations use the occasion to encourage regular donations that help save lives and strengthen healthcare services.
The Indian Embassy noted that it regularly works with community groups to organise blood donation drives, medical camps and other welfare initiatives. Such programmes continue to strengthen people-to-people relations between India and Kuwait while supporting humanitarian causes across the country.
