A tragic incident unfolded in Dubai as Indian-origin engineer Issac Olakkengil drowned during a scuba diving training session at Jumeirah Beach. The 35-year-old, who was vacationing with his family, reportedly experienced breathing difficulties mid-session and panicked, leading to the fatal mishap, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Issac was accompanied by his wife Reshma and brother Ivin during the training when the incident occurred. All three entered the water together, but only two survived.

  • Eyewitness accounts and reports suggest that Issac struggled to breathe during the session and, in a state of panic, drifted away from the designated training pit

  • His distress in the water led to chaos, affecting both Reshma and Ivin, who also began to struggle. Lifeguards and rescue teams rushed in and managed to pull all three from the water.

They were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but Issac was declared dead on arrival. His brother Ivin, who reportedly collapsed at the scene, remains under medical observation. Reshma is said to be in stable condition.

Dubai Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and have seized the scuba diving equipment for forensic examination.

This tragedy has raised questions about safety protocols and supervision during recreational training sessions, especially for beginners. The Indian expatriate community in Dubai has expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the grieving family.
