An Indian expatriate was killed in Sharjah after an alleged dispute on the social media platform TikTok escalated into a violent confrontation, according to local authorities.

Sharjah Police confirmed that the incident took place on May 31 and said several suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder. Investigations into the case are ongoing.

The victim was identified as 40-year-old Ismail Ponnan Ibrahim Kutty, a native of Kerala in southern India. He was employed at a bakery in Dubai and was known to be active on social media, particularly TikTok.

  • According to accounts from individuals familiar with the events, the fatal attack followed a heated exchange between Ismail and other TikTok users during a live broadcast on the platform

  • The online disagreement reportedly intensified over time, with participants allegedly challenging one another to settle their differences in person

The confrontation is believed to have culminated in a meeting near a park in the Al Nahda area of Sharjah. Reports indicate that a group of individuals confronted Ismail at the location, where he was allegedly attacked with sharp and blunt objects in broad daylight.

Emergency services were unable to save him, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has drawn attention to the potential dangers of social media disputes spilling into real-world violence. Authorities have not released further details regarding the suspects or possible charges, citing the ongoing investigation.

Sharjah Police urged the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to complete their work. More information is expected to be released as the case progresses.
