The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to build tourism circuits to leverage the historical and heritage sites dating from the Mahabharata period to the struggle for independence. To begin with the state government is developing the Mahabharata Circuit and Bundelkhand. The move will highlight UP’s rich historical heritage and remind tourists about Rani Laxmibai and Maharaja Suheldev.
Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary – Tourism of UP said that improvements in the infrastructure and other facilities for tourists were being done in a phased manner at all the historical sites.
Chunar Fort in Mirzapur is also a major attraction for tourists while Hastinapur, Kampilya (Farrukhabad), Barnwa (Baghpat), Mathura, Kaushambhi, Gonda and Ahichchhatra remind people of the Mahabharata period
The government was also keen to promote the sites. Also, a proposed light and sound show at Maharaja Bijli Pasi Fort in Lucknow was being readied.
Bundelkhand is synonymous with bravery and culture, IANS said in a report. In this arid area, the beautiful pond at Charkhari (Mahoba) built by the Chandel Dynasty, which never dries up, is a major attraction for tourists. Kalinjar Fort at Banda as well as heritage sites in Jhansi, Deogarh and Lalitpur continue to be the main centres of attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
Chunar Fort in Mirzapur is also a major attraction for tourists while Hastinapur, Kampilya (Farrukhabad), Barnwa (Baghpat), Mathura, Kaushambhi, Gonda and Ahichchhatra remind people of the Mahabharata period.
