NRI teen’s school safety software a big hit

An NRI teenager’s software innovations are making waves in the US, his adopted country, on account of their impact on the community in California where he lives.

Although he has grown up in the US, Tallam Sahil (17), originally hails from Amaravati mandal of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, India.

While one of his innovations concerns agriculture, it his security and surveillance system for schools that has drawn a lot praise and appreciation.

It is fairly certain that people in India, especially those from Guntur, will feel equally proud of his achievements.

Growing up amidst the prevailing gun culture in California, with its ever present threat of violence, death and tragedy, was a powerful motivator: Sahil was quick to realise that something had to be done about it. And then there was no stopping him from finding a solution.

It is fairly certain that people in India, especially those from Guntur, will feel equally proud of his achievements.

He noted the need for close surveillance and security arrangements in schools. He set to work and created a software that could detect anyone on the school campus with a firearm, such as a gun, a pistol or anything unusual.

He has set up a software-based micro-camera system at the San Ramon Dougherty Valley High School where he is a student and won praise  from faculty members, fellow students and members of the community, both Americans as well as non-resident Indians (NRIs)

Sahil says his innovation came about as a result of an “integrated object detection project”, he was working on.

In his device, a connected camera scans and detects dangerous weapons / objects that anyone within the campus might secretly conceal on their person with an intent to harm someone.
