Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to address the Ahlan Modi mega diaspora event in Abu Dhabi on February 13, a gathering that is anticipated to be one of the largest with an estimated 50,000 attendees. The event, meaning “welcome” in Arabic, underscores the significant presence of the Indian diaspora in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which boasts the largest Indian expatriate community globally, totaling 3.3 million individuals.

Scheduled just ahead of the inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Mandir on February 14, where Prime Minister Modi will officiate the ceremony, this event holds historical significance. The foundation stone for the Hindu Mandir was laid on April 20, 2019, a project initiated after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UAE in 2015, during which the government allocated the land for the Mandir.

The UAE’s substantial investments in India, totaling an estimated US$ 20-21 billion, with US$ 15.18 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), position the UAE as the 7th largest investor in India

The growing warmth in India-UAE relations is evident through years of robust diplomatic exchanges and high-level visits. UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is slated to visit India shortly for the vibrant Gujarat investors summit, underscoring the burgeoning economic cooperation between the two nations.

Prime Minister Modi’s frequent visits to the UAE, with six since 2014, have played a pivotal role in elevating bilateral ties. His most recent visit in December, for the Dubai climate change summit, highlights the commitment to addressing global challenges together. This dedication has propelled India-UAE trade to unprecedented levels, currently valued at around US$ 73 billion, a stark contrast from the modest US$ 180 million per annum in the 1970s.

The UAE’s substantial investments in India, totaling an estimated US$ 20-21 billion, with US$ 15.18 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), position the UAE as the 7th largest investor in India. This significant investment reflects the confidence in India’s economic potential and solidifies the enduring partnership between the two nations.
