Renowned Indian golfer Arjun Atwal, the only Indian to triumph on the prestigious PGA Tour, has embraced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Pravasi Sports. Atwal conveyed his appreciation to the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), the pioneering organization dedicated to promoting and integrating Pravasi Bhartiya youth with their homeland through sports.

From his residence in the USA, Atwal expressed, “I have always admired PM Modi, and the vision of Pravasi Sports holds special significance for me and my family. I look forward to playing golf in India in the coming years. Both my sons, passionate basketball players, would be thrilled to play in India and reconnect with their roots. The prospect of a Pravasi vs Nivasi competition is something we eagerly anticipate.”

In a meeting with the sports fraternity in 2019, Prime Minister Modi had envisioned and expressed the desire to establish sports competitions for talented Pravasi Bharatiya youth in India

HIPSA, having recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Haryana Government, is strategically planning tournaments involving overseas Indian youth, with a focus on Kabaddi development. The organization aspires to elevate Kabaddi to the Summer Olympics and is gearing up for Pravasi Sports Leagues in Women’s Kabaddi & Cricket in 2024. Unmukt Chand, captain of the 2012 U-19 ICC World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, currently based in the USA, has become one of the first advocates for these leagues. Chand shared, “The Prime Minister’s vision for sports competitions for Pravasi Bharatiyas is very inspiring. The concept of a Pravasi Sports League is promising, fostering fitness, enthusiasm, and a reconnection to our motherland.”
