A bizarre case of an NRI husband leaving his pregnant wife in the lurch in Canada has come to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which in turn contacted Hyderabad police based on details mentioned in the woman’s passport.

The allegation came from K Deepti Reddy, who is three months pregnant, against her husband A Chandrasekhar Reddy, who allegedly fled Canada on August 9, 2021, without informing her, the New Indian Express reported.

Deepti wrote a letter to the MEA explaining her situation and her suspicion that her brother-in-law, a constable in Hyderabad’s Chaitanyapuri police station, might have given shelter to her husband.

She also enclosed relevant documents like marriage certificate, passport etc., along with her letter to the MEA. Based on the address mentioned in the passport, the MEA approached the Rachakonda police.

According to media reports, the matter has come to the knowledge of senior police officials of the State.

After directives from Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat, Bhongir police received a complaint from Deepti’s family members on Saturday (September 18, 2021).

In her letter to the MEA, Deepti mentioned that she had been living in Montreal, Canada, for three months. Her husband Chandrasekhar Reddy was working as a postdoc with the Organic Chemistry Department at McGill University.

Her husband left Canada on August 9 and reached India. He neither informed her nor took her phone calls. When she tried to contact her in-laws, they blocked her number, she wrote in her complaint.
