Pravasi Mandal reaches out to Asian immigrants

Special daycare centre caters to the needs of disabled, elderly people — men, women and children — with food and all other creature comforts

Pravasi Mandal is a charity daycare centre in Northhamptonshire county, England that reaches out to elderly, disabled Asian immigrants and their families with an array of specialist services, including home-cooked meals, healthcare and social services.

 

The charity’s overall aim is to promote, advocate, and cater to the social, cultural, recreational, physical, and support needs of older persons of Asian origin who are isolated, disabled, or have other difficulties.

What began in 1984 as a social club for a small group of Asia men has burgeoned into a 400-strong organization, the only one of its kind in the whole of Northamptonshire. Its services are available for both men and women.

A Pravasi Mandal spokesperson says “Our employees work closely with one another to provide care and services of the highest quality to the Asian elderly”.

“The programmes are structured and designed to cover all the daily needs of our members”, the spokesperson added.

Elaborating further, the spokesperson says, “our main objective are to build contacts among members of the community, who had previously been isolated or cut off, to provide companionship with others, cater to all their needs in an environment of love and care, and serve them hot and healthy meals.

 

The daycare centre provides pure vegetarian meals that are cooked on the Pravasi Mandal premises. In addition, individual dietary needs for diabetics and patients of hypertension and other chronic or age-related ailments are also taken care of

 

Some  of the activities of Pravasi Mandal include hot meals prepared in our premises with standard quality of foods, delivery of meals to Social Services and private customers, carer support, personal care by our staff, physical activities: swimming, indoor games, gardening, Gujarati library, Asian Channels viewing and use of audio/video equipment, transport and luncheon Club.

The organisation also has a ‘Meals on Wheels’ service. “A variety of tasty meals are supplied at subsidised rates. We offer a variety of tasty dishes, including special diet options”, the spokesperson said.

“Our meals are created using only carefully selected ingredients for your peace of mind. They’re freshly cooked and delivered free by us. Simply you can order over the phone between 8.00-8.30 morning. You can enjoy free delivery to your door. Mealtime is taken care of- what could be simpler?”
