Punjab CM expresses grief over Indian-origin family’s murder even as suspect is arrested

The suspect in the kidnapping and murders of four Indian-origin family members in California, including a baby, has been arrested. Jesus Manuel Salgado was arrested on four counts of murder and four counts of kidnapping on October 7.

“This evening, Jesus Manuel Salgado, the suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Aroohi Dheri, Jasleen Kaur, Jasdeep Singh, and Amandeep Singh, was booked into the Merced County Jail. He was arrested for four counts of murder and four counts of kidnapping. Our Detectives, alongside investigators from assisting agencies, will continue to follow up on any leads of additional people who may have been involved in this horrific incident,” read Merced County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

India has expressed its grief over the murder of the Indian family. Responding to the incident, the Consulate General of India in San Francisco informed that they are “in touch with Merced’s authorities and community leaders.”

Meanwhile, as the couple belonged to Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed condolences over the deaths and appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure a high-level enquiry into the matter. “There was news of kidnapping and murder of four Indians in California, in which an 8-month-old girl has also been murdered. Very sad to hear this news. I share my grief with the families of the victims… and also appeal to the Union Minister of External Affairs @DrSJaishankar to conduct a high-level inquiry into the matter,” CM Mann tweeted.
