New Delhi, July 17:Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner in preserving India’s cultural and rural heritage by securing 10 prestigious national awards under the One District–One Product (ODOP) initiative. The awards, conferred during a ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, were presented by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. During the award ceremony, the minister noted that India will become the third largest economy in 2027. He added that the states, the population, and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi together have made this growth story possible.
The state earned accolades across multiple sectors—seven awards for handloom and handicraft products, two for agriculture, and one in the interstate ODOP category—marking a significant achievement in promoting indigenous crafts and strengthening rural livelihoods.
Honoured Products Showcasing Andhra’s Cultural Richness
The awarded handloom and handicraft products include:

In agriculture, Guntur Chilli and Srikakulam Cashew were recognised for their uniqueness and impact on local economies.
Government’s Commitment to Revival of Traditional Sectors
Minister for BC & EWS Welfare, Handlooms and Textiles S. Savita credited the success to the proactive governance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, under whose leadership the TDP-led NDA government has revitalised traditional sectors within a year of returning to power.
Commissioner for Handlooms and Textiles G. Rekha Rani remarked, “The awards are a testament to the government’s strong focus on reviving and promoting Andhra’s craft traditions and improving rural livelihoods.”
Supportive Initiatives for Weavers and Artisans
In a major welfare move, the government will launch a free electricity scheme for the weaving community on National Handloom Day, August 7, 2025:
- Handloom weavers to receive 200 units/month of free power
- Powerloom operators to get 500 units/month
Additionally, the government will release thrift fund contributions to weavers—a key election promise—endorsed by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh.
Strengthening Market Access
Efforts are also being made to expand market reach for artisans. Andhra currently operates 97 APCO showrooms, with plans to open more across the state. The government is also promoting local products through e-commerce platforms, ensuring broader visibility and improved earnings for craftspeople.
The ODOP awards serve as a powerful motivator, boosting morale, encouraging innovation, and reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s identity as a national hub for traditional excellence in both craft and agriculture.
