Amit S Telang has been appointed as the Indian ambassador to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This strategic assignment comes in tandem with his concurrent roles as the Indian High Commissioner to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Indian High Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda.

A seasoned diplomat, Telang presently serves as the High Commissioner of India to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, with his residence in Georgetown. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) affirms that he is well-positioned to take up these additional responsibilities shortly.

  • This strategic diplomatic move aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen global partnerships and contribute to the socio-economic progress of nations

India’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with CARICOM is underscored by the establishment of a formal relationship, building on existing diplomatic connections with individual CARICOM member states. As a testament to this commitment, the government of India funded a substantial USD 1.166 million initiative in 2005-2006. This initiative aimed at enhancing information technology and communication infrastructure, developing computer software, and establishing a community studio at the CARICOM Secretariat, as highlighted by the MEA.
