The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to develop heliports in four places in the state to boost tourism. The move for the four heliports was presented by the state tourism department and the cabinet has approved the development of the projects on PPP basis.

The concerned minister, Jaiveer Singh, told newspersons that the cities that will have heliports will include Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mathura and Agra. In Lucknow, the heliport will be developed at the Ramabai Rally Ground.

“With a view to promote tourist destinations, the ministry of tourism has issued guidelines to extend financial assistance to state governments/Union Territory administrations for construction of heliports under the Scheme of Product/ Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits.”

A heliport is a small airport that is used by helicopters and other vertical lift aircraft. Heliports usually have one or more touchdown and lift-off areas and there could also be facilities for fuel or hangars. In some cities, there could be customs facilities too.

It may be mentioned that the central tourism ministry has a detailed policy for heliport tourism. “With a view to promote tourist destinations, the ministry of tourism has issued guidelines to extend financial assistance to state governments/Union Territory administrations for construction of heliports under the Scheme of Product/ Infrastructure Development for Destinations and Circuits,” according to an official document on the issue.
