India stops e-visas to UK, Canadian nationals

Reports indicate that the withdrawal of e-visas for citizens of Canada and the United Kingdom was a reciprocal treatment

The Ministry of Home Affairs has withdrawn the e-visa facility for UK and Canadian citizens from the first week of August this year. Something similar was done with Chinese nationals when the Galwan Valley incident happened.

Reports indicate that the withdrawal of e-visas for citizens of Canada and the United Kingdom was a reciprocal treatment. According to a senior Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) official, post-Covid, UK and Canada had mandated a lot of restrictions over the entry of Indian nationals in their country and many times, travellers had to face inconvenience despite several requests to the embassies to take up and matter and resolve it. Now, the government has decided to allow only vaccinated travellers to apply for tourist visas.

Tourist visa is already suspended and people visiting India under other categories of visa now have to apply for regular sticker visas

“The e-visa facility to UK and Canada citizens have been withdrawn from the first week of August this year. Now, they have to apply for a regular sticker visa at the Indian embassy. Tourist visa is already suspended and people visiting India under other categories of visa now have to apply for regular sticker visas,” the official was quoted saying.
