British police have confirmed that a missing Indian nursing student from Manchester was found safe after an intensive overnight search operation that concluded within the past 24 hours. The case drew significant attention across diaspora networks after friends reported the student missing late Tuesday.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the 21-year-old student was last seen leaving a public transport station after finishing evening classes. When repeated phone calls went unanswered, classmates alerted authorities and university officials, triggering a coordinated search effort involving transit police and local volunteers.
Police stated that the student was located Wednesday morning in a neighboring district and was medically evaluated as a precaution
“At this stage there is no indication of criminal involvement, but inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the disappearance,” an official spokesperson said.
The incident generated widespread concern among Indian students across the UK, many of whom circulated appeals on social media through student associations and community groups. University administrators praised the rapid coordination between law enforcement and volunteers. “This demonstrates the importance of immediate reporting and community cooperation,” a university representative stated.
Friends of the student said she had recently been experiencing academic stress and fatigue while balancing coursework and part-time employment. Mental health advocates have used the incident to highlight the pressures faced by international students adapting to demanding academic environments abroad.
The Indian High Commission in London acknowledged the case and confirmed that consular staff were in contact with local authorities during the search.
