The NRI Commission for Non-Resident Indians (Keralites) is set to launch a new digital platform aimed at improving services for expatriate Keralites worldwide.

Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram during the 10th NRI Adalat, Commission Chairperson Justice (Retd) Sophie Thomas said the advanced website is being developed in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT). The initiative is intended to make the Commission’s operations more transparent, efficient and accessible.

The online platform will enable expatriates to submit complaints from any country without having to visit the Commission’s office in person. Users will also be able to track the progress of their cases and download final orders issued by the Commission.

Justice Thomas said the final round of discussions regarding the project has been completed and the website will be launched soon.

  • Since assuming office in August last year, the Commission has been conducting monthly NRI adalats across Kerala

  • With upcoming adalats scheduled in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha over the next two months, the Commission will complete a statewide round of hearings

  • The Alappuzha adalat is expected to take place in July

The Commission has also raised concerns about fraudulent organisations targeting expatriates. It has recommended action at the Director General of Police (DGP) level against groups that falsely claim government approval while offering lifetime memberships and pension schemes.

Officials said investigations have identified some such organisations with as many as 30,000 registered members. The Commission stressed the need for greater public awareness to protect expatriates from financial scams.

In addition, the Commission has proposed that only organisations registered with NoRKA should be permitted to provide services and assistance to expatriates, a measure aimed at strengthening safeguards for overseas Keralites.
