Officials stated that follow-up inspections are expected across additional industrial sites in the coming weeks
Malaysian labour authorities have opened an investigation into illegal hostel conditions housing Indian factory workers after a viral social media video triggered public outrage within the past 24 hours. The footage allegedly showed overcrowded rooms, poor sanitation facilities, and unsafe electrical wiring inside worker accommodations linked to an industrial manufacturing company.
Officials from the Human Resources Ministry confirmed that inspection teams visited the premises Wednesday evening and recorded several possible violations of labour housing regulations. “Worker accommodation standards are legally enforceable and cannot be ignored,” a ministry spokesperson stated.

“Too many people were living in very small rooms,” one worker said anonymously
Authorities indicated that the employer may face fines, licence suspension, or criminal penalties if the allegations are substantiated. Labour inspectors are also reviewing employment contracts, wage records, and health compliance documentation connected to the factory.
The incident has renewed criticism from migrant worker advocacy organisations, which argue that housing abuses remain widespread in some manufacturing sectors despite repeated enforcement campaigns.
The Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur acknowledged the investigation and stated that it is closely monitoring the welfare of affected workers.
