5-year-old Mizo girl’s magical version of National Anthem mesmerises the nation

But its overpowering magic has an enduring quality. After last year’s accolades from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Mizoram Chief Minister, Harsh Goenka, the chairperson of RPG Enterprises, as well as others, re-shared the video from 2021, which they described as “beyond beautiful.”

New Delhi: Such passion and beauty in this powerfully moving rendition of the National Anthem! It could very well stand forever as the voice that perfectly personifies the spirit of Freedom and Liberty in this beautiful land of ours – India.

And to think that when she sang the national anthem last year in celebration off India’s 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, Esther Hnamte of  Lunglei village, from the north-eastern state of Mizoram, she was just five years old.

Like a comet it quickly blazed a fiery trail on the air waves over the internet and garnered over 3 lakh followers.

But its overpowering magic has an enduring quality. After last year’s accolades from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, the chairperson of RPG Enterprises Harsh Goenka as well as others, re-shared the video from 2021, which they described as “beyond beautiful.”

“Indian Army recorded this beautiful rendition of our national anthem.. Mesmerizing!” Harsh Goenka captioned the video he shared on his Twitter account.

While everyone applauded the video, calling it a ‘beautiful rendition,’ others also mentioned that it should be played in all theatres.

Last year, the nearly 2-minute-long video was shared by Zoramthanga and several other people. The video was uploaded on August 13, two days before the country’s 75th Independence Day.

“Indian Army heard the viral singing of National Anthem by a 5 yr old girl named Esther Hnmate from Mizoram. They traced her & with army band recorded the National Anthem. Results were simply mesmerising. See the girl in uniform too,” Air Marshal Anil Chopra (Retired) tweeted sharing the video.

“Beauty in the way it is played. Promote music at the national level. It integrates the country more,” said one user while another conveyed, “Her tender voice is fragile but yet so sweet to hear. A very adorable little child.”

IP lawyer and strategist, Safir Anand also said, “Beautiful things that make India so complete. This beautiful kid from Mizoram is worth the whole country’s love for her lovely and innocent singing.”

Esther had gone viral last year when she sang a contemporary version of the national song “Vande Mataram”. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised the child on Twitter.

“Adorable and admirable! Proud of Esther Hnamte for this rendition,” the Prime Minister said of the girl’s version of the national song.  Her angelic voice has also been praised by India’s Oscar-winning composer and singer AR Rahman

Esther has over 5 lakh YouTube subscribers where she regularly uploads her renditions of various songs.

She often uploads her covers of different songs to her over 5 lakh YouTube fans. Last year, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who adored her singing, also posted the same video.

Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte, was born on June 9, 2016. When her rendition of A. R. Rahman’s song Maa Tujhe Salaam went viral in late 2020, she became a media phenomenon.

Regarding the girl’s rendition of the national anthem, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi commented, “Adorable and admirable! Proud of Esther Hnamte for this rendition.”

Among the Mizo people, she became the fastest-growing YouTube artist.

In 2021, Hnamte got the Governor of Mizoram’s special appreciation award, as well as the Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited’s Young Achievers Award.

Born on June 9, 2016, Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte, a child singer and prodigy, is the youngest of three children born to taxi driver Lalrinenga Hnamte and R. Lalawmpui. Her mother, a retired soprano from the local church choir, is primarily responsible for her musical passion.

Her mother was on the verge of aborting her before she was born, on the advice of a doctor, due to pregnancy complications. But her mother chose to face the consequences. People at the hospital said she was going to be a good singer because she was born with a high-pitched voice.

As a Mizo native Esther does not speak any other language. She had to practice singing Hindi and English songs with her friends in order to memorise them.

Much to everyone’s surprise, she could sing fluently when she was two years old and she was exceptionally skilled at picking tunes and lyrics.
